Taking place at the historic William and Mary country house on October 2nd 2011 from 14:30 BST, it aims to introduce attendees to the wonders of Georgian-era jellies, using original moulds from the 18th and 19th centuries.

These spectacular creations are worlds away from children's party fare, with recreations of Solomon's Temple in blancmange, Wedgewood-designed fruit baskets and gilded jelly fish ponds among the items on offer.

People wishing to attend this showcase of jellies, flummeries and other moulded delicacies can purchase tickets for GBP26, which includes afternoon tea, while York Civic Trust members and Friends of Fairfax House will receive a GBP2 discount.

Breaking the Mould is one of many food tasting experiences taking place in Middlethorpe Hall over the coming months, with wine and whisky samplings also planned.

The National Trust-owned property has been standing since 1699 and is surrounded by 20 acres of manicured gardens and parkland.
