Group Wants to Stop Fast Food Spread by Stymieing Building Construction
A Washington, D.C.-based group is urging Chicago Mayor Richard Daley to temporarily stop fast food restaurant construction.

November 01, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- A Washington, D.C.-based group is urging Chicago Mayor Richard Daley to temporarily stop fast food restaurant construction.

The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine says that such a step is "urgently needed" because fast food consumption leads to obesity and heart disease.

A group that lobbies against fast food and meat consumption will ask Mayor Daley to temporarily stop fast food restaurant construction.

The _i_Chicago Tribune_/i_ obtained a copy of the letter which said in part:

"A moratorium on new fast-food restaurants could be a critically important step toward fighting this epidemic."

The group plans to run a TV commercial in the Chicago media market this week. The commercial shows a woman grieving over a man in a morgue who is still clutching a hamburger. Miami stations have refused to air the ad, but it will play on various cable channels.

The organization claims to have more than 10,000 physician members.
